Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you sign up we collect your name, email address, college/institution, and any profile details you choose to provide.

Event data. Organisers who create events submit details such as event name, description, schedule, venue, ticket information, refund rules, and promotional assets.

Payment and transaction information. When you make a paid registration or purchase, we collect billing contact details, order amounts, currency, payment status, UPI transaction identifiers (UTR), optional payment proof uploads, and payment method type. We do not store UPI PINs or full card numbers. Card data, when gateway checkout is enabled, is handled by our payment partner (for example Razorpay).

Organiser payment information. For paid events we store organiser UPI IDs, payee names, verifier contacts, and reconciliation records. For gateway settlement we may also collect bank account details, tax identifiers, and KYC information needed to pay out organisers.

Usage information. We automatically collect log data (IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps) and device identifiers to operate and improve the platform.

Communications. If you contact us via email or other channels, we retain that correspondence.

Cookies & local storage. We use first-party cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. We do not use cookies for third-party targeted advertising.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the MissOut platform, Stage discovery tools, and Backstage event-management tools.
• Facilitate paid registrations (including direct-UPI matching and verification), issue tickets, and send confirmations.
• Settle ticket proceeds with event organisers when gateway settlement is enabled, subject to our Terms of Service.
• Personalise your event discovery feed based on your college and interests.
• Send transactional emails such as registration confirmations and event reminders.
• Respond to your support requests or enquiries.
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, chargebacks, or security incidents.
• Comply with applicable laws, tax, and accounting obligations.

3. Sharing of Information

We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

• Service providers. Trusted vendors who help us operate the platform (for example cloud hosting, email delivery, analytics, and Razorpay for payment processing, refunds, and settlements) and are contractually bound to protect your data.
• Event organisers. When you register or purchase for an event, the organiser receives the information needed to manage attendance, fulfilment, and their own legal obligations (such as name, email, and purchase status).
• Legal obligations. If required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
• Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred; we will notify you before it becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

We may change payment partners or settlement routing for operational or compliance reasons; this does not change how we describe our role in our Terms and Refund Policy.

4. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. Typical retention includes:

• Payment and invoice records: up to eight (8) years or as required by applicable Indian tax and accounting law.
• Registration and ticket data: for the life of the event and a reasonable period afterward for support, disputes, and fraud prevention.
• Organiser payout and KYC records: for the duration of the relationship and as required for compliance thereafter.

We may retain anonymised, aggregated data indefinitely for analytics purposes.

5. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit (TLS) and access controls, to protect your information. Payment card and UPI credentials are handled by Razorpay under their security standards. However, no internet transmission is 100% secure; please use a strong, unique password and keep it confidential.

6. Children's Privacy

MissOut is intended for users aged 16 and older. We do not verify age at registration. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe someone under 16 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

7. Your Rights & Choices

Depending on your jurisdiction you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
• Object to or restrict certain processing activities.
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

8. Deleting Your Account & Data

You can delete your MissOut account at any time from your account settings in the platform. Once confirmed, your profile and personally identifiable information will be removed from our active systems, subject to the retention rules above.

Deleting your account does not cancel paid tickets or entitle you to a refund. Refunds are governed by our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

If you cannot complete deletion in the app, contact us at info@missout.in and we will help you.

What we retain. Notwithstanding the above, we will retain certain records as required by applicable Indian law, including payment and transaction records, organiser settlement records, audit logs, and data necessary for financial compliance, fraud prevention, or ongoing legal proceedings.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of MissOut after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
